OPENING RECEPTION Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 6:00 - 9:00 PM PST 'Hapa Bruthas' a performance by Chanel Matsunami Govreau Chanel Matsunami Govreau is performance storyteller and costume designer who uses a combination of sculptural regalia and spoken word to create live narratives and collaborative photoshoots. Her stories are based on her activism as a queer, multiracial, and Asian-American woman. She investigates moments of vanity, emotional indulgence and self-exposure to extract and confront internalized social patterns. Chanel is creating a new work specifically for Man as Object: Reversing the Gaze. Titled 'Hapa Bruthas,' this performance will explore Hapa male and Asian male sexuality, brotherhood, and the effects of interracial dating in Asian American communities from a mixed-Asian woman's perspective.
